Overview

Solo developer LocalThunk took the universal familiarity of standard poker hands and warped it into an endlessly replayable roguelike. Balatro challenges players to reach astronomical point thresholds by modifying cards, enhancing suits, and stacking synergistic Joker bonuses across increasingly unforgiving Blinds.

Gameplay Mechanics

Each round demands defeating Small, Big, and Boss Blinds with limited hand attempts and discards. Successful rounds award cash used in the shop to purchase Jokers, Tarot cards, Planet cards, and Spectral packs. The thrill comes from identifying synergistic combos that turn humble two-pair hands into millions of scoring chips.
